Portland Trail Blazers All-Star guard Brandon Roy has been sidelined indefinitely because of sore knees, the NBA team said on Thursday.

Roy's lingering condition has forced him to miss nine games this season while it has also limited his playing time.

"Unfortunately, Brandon Roy's condition has not significantly improved and we've decided to hold him out indefinitely," Trail Blazers general manager Rich Cho told the team's website (nba.comblazers).

"In the short term, we're going to proceed with an extended period of rest. Beyond that, we're looking at all available treatment options to help better determine a course of action."

A three-times All-Star and the 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year, Roy is averaging 16.6 points per game this season, more than three points less than his career average.
