N Srinivasan to make presence felt in London

N Srinivasan will certainly be in London for next week’s ICC Annual Conference, but he will not attend the all-important board meeting. Interim president Jagmohan Dalmiya will represent the BCCI at the 16-member conclave which will be attended by ICC honchos (president, vice-president and chief executive), all full member directors and three associate member directors.

For the record, the ICC board is the most powerful panel in the world body and Srinivasan’s decision to give the meeting a miss proves he is backing word with action.

However, Srinivasan — who has decided to “step aside” from BCCI affairs till the inquiry into his son-in-law’s alleged involvement in the IPL spot-fixing scandal is completed — will take part in three less important meetings.

He is part of the ICC’s finance and commercial affairs committee, nominations committee as well as HR and remuneration committee.

The get-together, which will commence next Tuesday (two days after the final of the ICC Champions Trophy), will be Srinivasan’s first since the embarrassing revelations in mid-May.

Sources say it was Dalmiya who advised Srinivasan against attending the board meet.

The hard-nosed administrator agreed, but not before ensuring he would be on the same plane to London.

The contentious Decision Review System (DRS) will be discussed at the ICC board meeting and sources say Srinivasan has directed Dalmiya to stick to the BCCI’s stance — that of opposing its implementation.
