The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), on Saturday, shot down a proposal made by one of its managing committee members to nominate Sharad Pawar to represent the body at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) annual general meeting (AGM) on September 29.
A member of the all-powerful managing committee suggested that Pawar, the former MCA and BCCI president, represent the association at the AGM. But the others rubbished the proposal. “How could he suggest Pawar’s name. If Pawar wants to represent the MCA, he would have spoken to the concerned officials.
Our president, Ravi Savant, will be at the AGM,” said a person who was present at the meeting.
“It’s election time in MCA. These things happen. It’s nothing new. In the absence of a nominated office-bearer, only another office-bearer can attend the meeting. Pawar is not an office-bearer,” added the member.
The interesting part, though, is that Pawar is all set to contest the MCA presidential elections on October 18. However, he has yet to make an announcement. Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, too, has thrown his hat into the ring.
