The Citizens currently are third in Group E, with two points after three games, and face a tough ask in overhauling second and third placed, AS Roma and Bayern Munich, to qualify for the Round of 16.

Though City lead bottom-placed CSKA Moscow by a solitary point, still Wednesday's home fixture against the Russian struglers, will decide as to whether Pelligrini's side really have the teeth to withstand trying circumstances in Europe.

Pelligrini reiterated that each of City's last three European matches resemble 'potential finals', and emphasized that qualifying for the knockout phases remains their number one priority.

Apart from the CSKA game, City will tackle their recent nemesis, Bayern in another home tie, and also travel to Italy, to face Roma in the concluding fixture.

Despite recent form and statistics being pitted against City, Pelligrini stated that his side would do well to qualify as second best team from the group, and even possibly go on and win the tournament.

The Chilean also maintained that Group E looks destined to go down to the wire, and said that the match against Roma would probably decide the fate of his side.

Pelligrini discounted talks of the Bayern tie being a 'death match' and concluded by saying that City would approach all three matches with a 'winning mentality'.

David Silva, Aleksandar Kolarov and Frank Lampard are set to sit out of Wednesday's match for City, thanks to injuries, which gives food for thought for Pelligrini to ponder upon.
