Lee Chong Wei extends local unbeaten record to eight years

With a packed international calendar, badminton's Lee Chong Wei doesn't find  it easy to find time to compete on the Malaysian circuit --  his compatriots must wish he wouldn't bother.

The world number one extended his unbeaten record on the domestic tour to eight years on Sunday with victory at the Perak Open, a run stretching back to the 2002 National Grand Prix Finals.

"It is not easy for me to take part in local tournaments because I have a hectic international schedule. But I do not want to neglect my obligation to raise the game at the local  level," he told local media.

Any shuttlers hoping for some respite from his dominance,  though, are likely to be disappointed.                                           

"My target at the local level is to win the National GP Finals for 10 times," he said. "I will be going for number nine in Terengganu."
