Having suffered the pain of losing her husband to an on-field tragedy 16 years ago, Kim Lamba was praying hard for the Australian's recovery. And all along, she was reminded of that fateful day when she lost Raman Lamba to a freak injury in Dhaka.

Kim, who now lives Madeira with children Jasmyn (21) and Kamran (19), shared her pain with dna on Thursday.

Like Hughes, Raman had also walked off the field never to return. Kim is still finding it difficult to digest the fact that the game has claimed the life of another player.

"I woke up to the news of Phillip's passing. I felt severe pain in the pit of my stomach. Many memories of the same hours, directly after Raman lost his fight for life, came flooding back," Kim told dna on Thursday.

"Phillip was a charismatic and talented young cricketer. I know what it is like to be living through such helpless hours. I was praying hard," she added.

"Jasmyn, Kamran and I wish to convey our deepest sympathies to Phillip's family and his nearest and dearest and offer our support in prayer at this very traumatic time. I would hope that the media can respect the privacy of Phillip family and his fellow cricketers. May God Bless him and may he be laid to rest in peace and be remembered globally for his talent, successes and love for the game," she added.
