It was the first time that these two sides met since the 1997 Champions League final that saw Dortmund emerge as champions. Needless to say that Juventus went into this match with payback on their minds and eventually that's exactly what they got.

It was a rather amateur display in the early moments of the match, with both teams losing possession easily. Juventus are accustomed to having it easy against their opponents in the Serie A, but they realised early on in the match that the Champions League is another affair altogether, and that they'd have to work really hard for their victory.

It was a very average defensive display as many of the Dortmund players were caught ball watching, while Juventus broke through the left flank with Morata bursting away with pace. It was a rather poor ball into the box by Morata but Weidenfeller's weak save left the ball in the path of Carlos Tevez who tapped the ball into an unguarded net, to take the lead in the 13th minute.

But Dortmund weren't the only ones with defensive problems as Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini slipped at the last moment while clearing the ball, to see Marco Reus take advantage by nudging the ball to his favourite right side and slotting the ball into the back of the net with a strong low finish past Buffon. This was Reus' fourth goal in four matches who has rediscovered his goal-scoring form and has given Dortmund the crucial away goal that may prove to be decisive later on in the tie.

Even though it was a home tie, Juventus were playing an almost counter attacking game trying to beat Dortmund on the break. A swift move by Juventus saw Carlos Tevez pass the ball along the left flank to Paul Pogba, who delivers a fantastic low cross to Morata, who coolly slots the ball into the bottom corner of the net, to give Juventus the lead in the 43rd minute.

The second half saw neither side scoring a goal, with Juventus settling on restricting Dortmund from scoring another goal, towards the end of the game. Juventus may be going into the second leg with a 2-1 advantage, but Borussia Dortmund have that crucial away goal. All they have to do now is to score one more goal in the return leg at Signal Iduna Park and restrict Juventus from scoring another goal, to advance into the quarter finals of the Champions League.
