Higuain, who last season scored a record 36 Serie A goals, underwent a medical with the club who have won the title for the past five seasons.

He still had two years to run on his contract with Napoli but Juventus agreed to pay the 28-year-old's full release clause - a record transfer fee in Serie A.  The Argentina international has signed a four-year contract with the Serie A champions worth £6.3m per season and will become the third most expensive player of all time.

Napoli supporters on Saturday gathered in the city centre to tear up pictures of the Argentine and set fire to replicas of his number nine shirt.
