Jacques Kallis has met with an accident but is believed to have escaped unhurt. The mishap happened past midnight on Monday in Cape Town. Initial reports say the police did not find any evidence of drunk-driving from the South Africa all-rounder.

“He is fine. There is no injury to him. He will be available for the second Test,” a South Africa team spokesperson told DNA. The police have reportedly investigated the incident and have also taken Kallis’s statement.

Driving his Audi R8, Kallis rammed into the gate of a house in Wynberg, a suburb in the south of Cape Town. Kallis was alone in the car. “Jacques was sober behind the wheel and wasn’t speeding,” Kallis’s agent David Rundle, who is a former South Africa international, told the local media.

According to reports, Kallis was on his way home at 12:30 am and in an error of judgment drove into the gate, damaging the front of his car. “It was a freak, minor accident and there was nothing untoward about the manner in which it happened,” team doctor Mohd Moosajee said.

The South Africa players have been given two-day break. They will reassemble in Durban on Tuesday.
