The 32-year-old suffered the injury during the side's first tour match against Essex at Chelmsford. Confirming the news, team manager Charith Senanayake said that the management had decided to send him back home after conducting his fitness test on Wednesday.

"It's the prevailing injury. He was to do another test today, but yesterday we tested him at training and he still couldn't bowl," Senanayake was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Prasad had been one of the team's leading pacemen through 2015, bagging a total of 41 wickets at an average of 24.95 in the year. Besides Test series, England is also scheduled to play five-match ODI series and one-off T20 international match against Sri Lanka.
