The people who drive the team and stay away from spotlight all the time, are the men in question this time. As per a report in the Indian Express,  batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar have refused a 25 percent raise offered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI),

While chief coach Anil Kumble is paid Rs 6.5 crore annually, the other support staff are grossly underpaid. Former BCCI president  Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke had promised them that their salaries would be hiked by 100% but the new administration under the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) revised the salary raise. This didn't please the likes of Bangar and co.

India have been on a great run in Tests and before the defeat to Australia in Pune, they had managed to stay unbeaten in 19 consecutive matches. The Virat Kohli-led side also topped the ICC rankings during this period and the support staff had an influential role in this matter. So it was expected that they wouldn't settle for a hike which is way below the amount which was promised.
