Kotwal, who also earlier smashed three national record timings in the same tournament, finished 17th in the speed trials, which was won by Canada's Jessica Gregg.

The national record has been cut down from 48.24 to 45.78 by Kotwal, who is now aiming to go below the 40 second barrier.

For the record, Kotwal also finished sixth in the 1000 meter race, clocking a time of 1:37.85, which incidentally was won by Jiachen Hao of China.

Another Indian who has made a mark in other skating tournaments across Europe, is Vishwaraj Jadeja, who won a 500 meter sprint meet in Utrecht, Netherlands, on Wednesday.
