UPDATE: India vs Jordan football friendly to go ahead even after delayed arrival, luggage loss

The much-awaited friendly has been cancelled after the full Indian squad failed to make it to the destination on time due to a flight delay.

According to GOAL, the full Indian squad could only assemble in Amman with less than 24 hours to kickoff and the team management deemed it impossible to go through with the game.

A 15-member group including the likes of goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and others had already reached Jordan on Thursday. However, seven Indian players along with officials reached late on Friday night. They were stuck at the Kuwait airport for over ten hours as rain delayed their flight to Amman.

Jordan's upcoming fixture against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday meant that there was no chance of re-scheduling and the match had to be cancelled.

The match was one of the last friendlies India were scheduled to play ahead of the AFC Asia Cup in January next year. The Blue Tigers will play Oman in a friendly game in December now.

At AFC Asia Cup, India have been drawn in the Group A alongside UAE, Thailand and Bahrain. The Men in Blue will open their campaign against Thailand on January 6.
