India, who were thoroughly outclassed, in the opening match at Perth, looked set to be heading the same route, when Australia scored the opener in the 30th minute, thanks to forward Matt Gohdes deflecting a shot into goal, just before the end of the second quarter.

Despite the initial setback, India roared back in the third quarter, and leveled issues, thanks to Ramndeep's precise finish in the 33rd minute, which was set up by the excellent Sardar Singh.

The visitors made a comeback in the very next minute, thanks to Sunil, who dribbled past the Australian defence, and cooly converted his shot past the goalkeeper.

Stung by the Indian riposte, Australia raised their game and tried to come back into the match, only for a resolute India to ward off their attacking threat, during the rest of the game.

Though both sides made desperate forays, in their quest to gain more goals, still it was India, who managed to hold on to their slender 2-1 lead, and gain a morale bosting win ahead of the third test match.
