Face with the task of rebuilding the country after the April and May earthquakes, the AIFF decided to do its bit by playing a international football friendly to spread goodwill. The match against the Himalayan nation also serves as preparation for Stephen Constantine and his boys ahead of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Asian powerhouses Iran on September 8 in Bengaluru.

India had got the better of their opponents in their last outing with the hosts prevailing 2-0 on aggregate in their qualification matches for the 2018 World Cup. While India won 2-0 at home in Guwahati, the away match in Kathmandu ended goalless.

Out of 19 matches between the two sides, Nepal have managed to win just 4, while India have recorded victory on 12 occasions.
