ICC Test Ranking: Kohli's India number 1, Pakistan in hot pursuit
India surpassed Austrailia to gain top spot in ICC rankings
BCCI, on its Twitter handle, on Wednesday announced that Team India has taken over the number one spot on ICC Test rankings. India will have to beat West Indies in the fourth test in Trinidad that starts on Thursday to retain the position.
After Australia lost to Sri Lanka 0-3 in Colombo on Wednesday, Team India moved to top spot. With 112 points, India rule the rankings with arch rivals Pakistan in hot pursuit with just one point behind.
Australia now join England with 108 points but is ranked above Alastair Cook's side, said BCCI in a statement.
To maintain the top spot, India will have to win the fourth Test match against West Indies which begins in Port of Spain on Thursday. If India wins the last Test they will finish on 112 points but if they draw they will finish at 110 points, one point behind Pakistan. And if they lose, India will end on 108 points and go down to fourth spot.
Captain Virat Kohli's men, who surpassed Australia in the International Cricket Council rankings, will relentlessly probe for weaknesses in the West Indies team, says fast bowler Ishant Sharma.
India lead the series 2-0 heading into the final game at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain.
