Edmeades said that Kohli is still one of the most attractive players in the world cricket and his participation in the auction will cause a huge battle between the franchises
IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades pointed out recently that Former Indian Captain Virat Kohli could fetch as much as 30 crores in the next IPL auction if he chooses to participate. One of the most prominent players in Indian cricket and a player of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli has never been in an auction since the start of the league in 2008.
Edmeades highlighted that Kohli is one of the biggest attractions in cricket today, and his inclusion would trigger a war of the franchises. The auctioneer said, “Kohli is the kind of brand that fans and sponsors would follow, and hence he is very valuable.” Edmeades felt that based on Kohli’s recent performance and current popularity, the bidding could go beyond the estimated 30 crores.
The future of Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is in discussion, especially in light of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. The IPL 2025 Mega Auctions are likely to be held between December 2024 and February 2025, where franchises will be able to retain only a few players—three or four at most. Many players will then be open for bidding, which will make the competition acute. However, most players get under the hammer, the least expectant is the RCB to let go off Kohli, their star player and former captain.
Kohli is not only a valuable player in RCB’s playing eleven, but also the face that increases the franchise’s value and appeal to the fans. As for the auction, RCB is likely to keep him in the team because of his experience and leadership skills, which are characteristic of him, and become one of the team’s pillars.
