JALANDHAR: Former captain Dhanraj Pillay on Thursday said Indian hockey team was in dire need of a person like Jagmohan Dalmiya to rejuvenate the sport in the country.

Pillay, who was in the city on Thursday to play for Indian Airlines in the Surjit Memorial hockey tournament, said hockey players should be suitably paid to extract a better performance from them at international level "but it would only be possible with a fund raiser like Dalmiya".

Pillay lamented that the Indian Hockey Federation had not yet given cash awards to team which won the Asia Cup recently and praised actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar for being generous enough to facilitate the hockey players with cash awards.

He said the IHF should comprise players like Pargat Singh who could bring it back on right track.
