London: A video footage has reportedly shown a cricket ball being launched to the edge of the space for the first time. The video shows the ball rising through the clouds from Ebgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, and to the upper reaches of the atmosphere to reach a peak altitude of 1,10,000-feet and enduring temperatures of -54 Celsius while attached to a helium balloon.According to the Independent, the cricket ball reached the peak altitude, which is three times the cruising height of commercial aeroplanes, before it plummeted back to Earth. The official match ball reportedly reached the ground safely, thanks to a parachute, as it hurtled back down at 500 mph to land in almost perfect conditions in Newbury, Berkshire. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had worked with aeronautical engineers for the stunt to mark the start of the NatWest T20 Blast competition, the report added.
