Girondins Bordeaux have appointed Jean Tigana as their new coach, the Ligue 1 club said in a statement on Tuesday.

"(Club president) Jean-Louis Triaud and Jean Tigana, Girondins Bordeaux new coach, will hold a press conference today at 1500 (1300GMT)," the statement read.  Former France international Tigana, who has coached Olympique Lyon, Monaco and Fulham, replaces Laurent Blanc, who will become France coach after the June 11-July 11 World Cup in South Africa.
