Girls deserve as much as boys: Sachin Tendulkar

Star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar says that he is as passionate about the cause of a girl child as he is about the game. It pains him to see a segment of girls not getting access to proper education in this country.

“It’s a reality, but is also disappointing to see that girls don’t get to school in rural areas because of lack of facilities…” says Sachin as he announces his support for the cause of education for the girl-child with Support My School campaign. “It’s a campaign that’s close to my heart because we all know how important it is to support education and provide a proper platform to the girl child,” he said.

The cricketer, who’s often referred to as God of cricket, says that women have always played a big role in his life and had it not been for the sacrifices of his wife Anjali, he wouldn’t have achieved what he has till now. “There is always a woman, who comes and changes your life — be it your mother, sister or daughter. All men should appreciate and respect the role a woman plays in their lives,” he said.

Sachin adds that the greatest bane in any civilised society is the distinction made between a boy and a girl. “I don’t think in a civilised society there can be a distinction between a girl and a boy. Girls need as much care and love as a boy when they are growing up. Education is not only important, it is a basic necessity for every individual. We should ensure that every girl child in this country gets proper education and facilities to ensure that they grow up into strong women, who can lead this country. I have a daughter (Sarah) of my own  and I also know how important a role education plays in one’s life,” said the Master Blaster.
