The world was rocked by arrests of top FIFA officials in Zurich following corruption and many other charges. This happened just days before the Presidential election was to take place.

The former footballer, 54, and winner of the world’s Golden Boot in 1986, said it was time for major footballing nations to walk away from the “nauseating pollution of the world’s game”.

Lineker expressed his views in a series of Tweets aimed towards current President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter and the organisation itself.

He also called out for suspension of the Presidential elections and re-vote for the venue of upcoming 2018 and 2022 World Cup.

Though the elections have been postponed, the authorities have ruled out a re-vote and said the venues will remain same.
