Former under-19 stars Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja shine on the big stage

Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja were the stars as India and West Indies faced off in London in their Champions Trophy match. Kohli was playing his 100th match and Jadeja finished India's bowling performance with figures of 5/36.

India managed to reduce West Indies to 233/9 as Jadeja put on his career-best show.

It was at the 2008 U/19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia that these two players first donned the Indian colours. India won the silverware there as Kohli and Jadeja were the stars of the victorious team.

Kohli has amassed 4,085 runs at an average of under 50 in his 99 ODIs so far.

Besides his on field performance and rise as MS Dhoni's go to man Ravindra Jadeja got more popularity thanks to his Wikipedia page that had a spoof description that read 'Sir Ravindra Jadeja or Ravindrasinh Anirudhsinh Jadeja (born 6 December 1988), is a philanthropist, a Nobel Prize winner, a double Laureus Sportsman of the Year and the nearest human to being god. Other than that, he is an Indian cricketer."

This lead to spoof accounts on social media named Sir Ravindra Jadeja with Facebook and Twitter pages dedicated to the Indian all-rounder. A talented fielder capable of changing the game, a useful bowler and a handy batsman are some of the USPs that Jadeja-the cricketer can boast of.

Delhi lad Virat Kohli became the 30th Indian cricketer to play in his 100th ODI match. Kohli made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2008 and has earned his place in the Indian team as a No3 batsman and a match winner. The 24-year-old has played match-winning knocks and also won many awards like the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2012 rising to the rank of Indian vice-captain.

Kohli may have scored a paultry 22 against West Indies but his potential as a power player allows his one off bad outings to be overlooked.

The young cricketers playing at the top of their game is a healthy sign for the future of Indian cricket.
