FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Despite knowing of his dad's surgery, Adil Khan helps India equalize match against Bangladesh

India managed to score in the last minute to secure a 1-1 draw against Bangladesh in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers on Tuesday. 

With less than two minutes of regulation time left, it was Adil Khan, who came up with the equaliser, as he glanced his header past the near post, and into the back of the net.

However, what many did not know was that just as the Blue Tigers were walking out of their hotel room, Adil received a call saying his father was admitted in the hospital.

Adil's father Badrudin Khan, was in the hospital with two heart blockages and needed surgery. The surgery happened later that evening.

Despite hearing the news, Adil walked on to the field and gave his all and even scored for Team India.

"I was a little upset before the match. Scoring such a late goal and earning a point, in front of such a passionate crowd, there were so much of emotions involved," Adil told TOI after the match.

The India defender who has returned to the national team after a gap of seven years. When asked what went through his mind he said, he did not mix personal and professional life.

"In my entire career, I have not thought about anything when I am playing. Those 90 minutes are most important for me. Everyone has problems (in their life)," said Adil.

The footballer later rushed to Goa to was by his father's side who is recovering after a successful surgery.

Dedicating his first international goal to his father, wife and injured defender Sandesh Jhingan, Adil said, "I am happy with my performance, although I could have done much better in the first half. I am happy with the team too, but not the result. We could have scored three or four goals if we had converted the chances that we created."
