Thomas Muller put the hosts ahead in the 12th minute before Gotze doubled the lead with a fine sole effort seven minutes later, the Guardian reported.

Although captain Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for Poland with a diving header, Gotze eventually sealed Germany's win eight minutes before the final whistle.

With the win, Germany lead the Group D having 16 points from seven games, and are two points ahead of Poland.
