While the Germans dominated the first half, Antonie Griezmann scored in the first half injury time. Why Schweinsteiger felt the need to do a Boateng impersonation is anyone’s guess (but Boateng’s hand-ball was far more graceful), the major talking point was when Olivier Giroud was through in goal.

Now Giroud lacks the genuine pace and takes a little longer than most players to cover the ground so when he was through on goal, after Boateng jumped too far forward to head a goal. While Giroud was 50 yards from goal, German defender did well to eat up the ground between them before making a fine block. Giroud could’ve passed as well but didn’t but Howedes’s tackle was definitely a piece of art.
