Louis Van Gaal's men are currently placed 6th on the premier league table, with Liverpool two spots below on eight.

Liverpool go into the match after having lost to West Ham United 3-0.  Brenden Rodger's side will be missing Philippe Coutinho due to suspension, along with Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana ruled out due to injury. However, Rodgers believes that his side can secure a victory over Manchester United. "Winning a game like this can give you psychological boost," he told reporters on Friday. "United is a huge club and will always be under scrutiny. The intensity of this fixture is still there. The players will feel it. We've had two tough games away from home and performed well in terms of our organisation. We also want to be really creative."

Manchester United also enter this fixture having lost their first match on the season to Swansea. To add to Manchester United's woes, skipper Wayne Rooney is set to miss this important clash against Liverpool.  Goal-keeper David De Gea who is yet to make an appearance this season, has signed a new four-year contract with the club, leaving the Manchester United fans hoping he might start the match ahead of Sergio Romero. With Rooney ruled out due to injury, Manchester United fans will also be looking forward to watch teenager Anthony Martial make his debut.

1) Racial abuse against Evra: It is one of the most controversial moment from Liverpool-Manchester United rivalry. Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez racially abused Patrice Evra, using the 'N-Word' at Anfield on  October 15, 2011. This incident led to a £40,000 fine being imposed on Suarez along with an eight match ban.

2) Suarez refuced to shake hands with Evra: Following the racial abuse incident, Luis Suarez refused to shake hands with Patrice Evra, before Liverpool's return fixture at Old Trafford.

3) Evra's taunt post-match: The following season, Liverpool lost 2-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford, which resulted in Evra celebrating the victory straight in front of Suarez after the match.

4) When Liverpool humiliated Manchester United: On 14th March 2009, football fans across the world witnessed something unusual. Despite leading 1-0 against Liverpool, the hosts Manchester United ended up losing 4-1 on Old Trafford. United took the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo's spot kick. But minutes later, Fernando Torres equalised the score for Liverpool. Just before the half-time, Liverpool took the lead through Gerrard's penalty kick. Things got worse for Sir Alex Ferguson's men as Fábio Aurélio scored the third for Liverpool on the 77th minutes, a supperb 25-yard free-kick that left Van der Sar stunned. The final nail in the coffin was added in the dying stages of the match as Andrea Dossena added the fourth, leaving Manchester United red faced in front of their own crowd.

5) Dimitar Berbatov's hat-trick: Former Manchester United forward displayed one of his finest performances as his hat-trick helped Manchester United secure a 3-2 victory over Liverpool. The match is known for the spectacular over-head kick goal scored by Berbatov.
