England coach Trevor Bayliss thinks Alastair Cook can overtake Tendulkar as leading scorer
Alastair Cook became just the 12th player in the history and the youngest batsman to accumulate 10,000 runs in Test cricket.
England coach Trevor Bayliss has backed Alastair Cook to overtake legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as Test cricket's all-time leading scorer, saying that the skipper has all the qualities required to match up with any of the best international players.
Cook became just the 12th player in the history and the youngest batsman to accumulate 10,000 runs in Test cricket during the course of his unbeaten 47 in the second Test as England beat Sri Lanka by nine wickets at the Riverside in Chester-le-Street on Monday. Reflecting on the same, Bayliss hailed the opening batsman's efforts and insisted that to be able to surpass the landmark over the period of time is fantastic.
Cook (10,042), however, still has a long way to go to outshine Tendulkar's aggregate tally of 15,921 Test runs. Bayliss, however, believes Cook will keep scoring runs and his concentration power would help him to achieve the milestone. The coach insisted that Cook might not be the biggest stroke-player of all-time, but added that he knows his game very well, Sport24 reported.
England have currently taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series against Sri Lanka and the two sides will now play an inconsequential match from June 9 at the Lord's.
