According to the Mirror, former Reds skipper Keane, whose relationship with Ferguson has broken down completely, said the ex-United boss still tries to exert power and control behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

However, Moyes rejected the Irishman's claims and insisted Ferguson, now a United director, was not meddling in team affairs and had been nothing but supportive, the report said.

Moyes also said that his players were 'distraught' about the poor start they have made to the defence of their title, but said their pride and professionalism will see them turn it around, the report added.
