India retained the Red Bull Campus Cricket T20 International World Finals with a win over Pakistan in the title clash at the R Premadasa Stadium on Saturday.

DAV College of Chandigarh repeated last year’s champions Rizvi College’s (Mumbai) feat by defeating Karachi University (KU) by 49 runs.

Left-arm spinner Gurinder Singh was the star of the final, scalping four for 20 following his brilliant cameo of 39.

After DAV posted 170/8 in 20 overs, Gurinder and seamer Rattan Singh (3/16) worked in tandem to bowl out KU for 121. KU opener Ammar Hasan was the only notable scorer with 58.

Gurinder had a stupendous success with both the bat and ball in the tournament. Player of thetournament Gurinder scored a century and an unbeaten 60 besides taking 16 wickets from six matches. That won him played of the tournament.

Batting first, DAV College were heading for a collapse. The Chandigarh team were two for three at one stage. However, skipper Kunal Mahajan played the rescue act with a quickfire 73, guiding his side to a respectable score. His knock came from just 36 deliveries with the help of seven sixes and five fours.

Mahajan stitched together an 87- run partnership with Gurinder, helping the team past 100 run mark first and then past 150. The in-form Gurinder could not carry on, falling 11 short of anotherhalf-century as he was dismissed by A Mirza. Mahajan kept the scoreboard running with hispowerful hitting
