BRUSSELS: Kim Clijsters is unlikely to defend her US Open title later this month because of a wrist injury.

The world number two underwent an MRI scan on the wrist on Thursday after picking up the injury at the Montreal Cup and is expected to be sidelined for at least two months, she said in a statement on her website.

Clijsters may also miss out on representing Belgium in next month's Fed Cup final against Italy.
