The chilly morning at Eden Gardens in Kolkata was greeted with shock and disbelief when Bengal cricketer Writam Porel had to be hospitalised after being struck on the shoulders reported a Bengali daily.

The incident happened in the final match of A N Ghosh trophy between East Bengal and Bhawanipore Club. Porel who plays for East Bengal was fielding at short leg when he was struck by a fierce Prinan Dutta shot.

The top-order batsman trudged off the field and was able to walk to the ambulance. He was immediately admitted to the Nightingale Nursing Home. MRI scan has been done on him and sources from the nursing home have confirmed that the cricketer is out of danger. However, he wasn't released from the nursing home for further observations.
