Four time FIFA world player of the year Argentinean superstar Lionel Messi has added a new feather to his cap. He has been voted UEFA's Best Player in Europe for last season.

Messi was the overwhelming winner getting 49 votes. Cristiano Ronaldo ended up in the second position and Luis Suarez was third. Messi had an exceptional last season for Barcelona scoring 58 goals in 57 matches. He played a crucial role in sealing La-Liga for Barcelona and also scored a goal in the Copa Del Ray final. Barcelona also won the prized Champions League title last season. 

The prolific Argentinean striker has so far scored 415 goals for his Spanish club. Launched in 2011, the UEFA award is a poll of journalists hailing across various European countries. Messi has received the award in 2011. Andres Iniesta, Franck Ribery and Ronaldo have been winners in previous years.

After accepting the award, Messi said, “I am very happy with the prize, but it is thanks to my team mates, who are a big part of the reason that I am here. Luis Suárez (also nominated) and I are representatives of the dressing room, but neither of us would be here without them."
