Mascarenhas goes to Jaipur team, Kolkata nets Salman Butt

MUMBAI: England’s Dimitri Mascarenhas has joined the IPL on Tuesday. He has been signed up by the Jaipur team. “Dimitri was allowed to play by his county Hampshire,” IPL commissioner Lalit Modi said. Twenty-eight players from six countries were bought in the second auction. Among the players who came under the hammer on Tuesday were Misbah-ul Haq (Bangalore for $ 125,000) and Shane Watson (Jaipur for $ 125,000). All the 14 members of the under-19 World Cup winning team were sold to different franchisees.

Bangalore also signed U-19 World Cup-winning skipper Virat Kohli, Bangladesh’s left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor and Shreevats Goswami, also part of the World Cup winning team.

 Jaipur picked up, along with Mascarenhas and Watson, South African fast bowler Morne Morkel, Pakistan seamer Sohail Tanvir and India juniors’ Taruwar Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkata franchise bagged Pakistan’s Salman Butt and Mohammad Hafeez besides India juniors Siddarth Kaul and Iqbal Abdulla.
