The family of shooter Saurabh Chaudhary on Tuesday expressed happiness after their son bagged a gold medal in men's 10m air pistol event at the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games.

The 16-year-old, who topped the score chart by posting 240.7 points, also managed to set an Asian Games record of scoring the highest number of points in the event.

The family expressed that they are proud of Saurabh's achievement while recalling how he was adamant to pursue his career in shooting despite his families' concerns regarding his studies.

"I am very happy for my son. I remember how his father was concerned about his studies but he was adamant that he would pursue his career in shooting. He impressed everyone with his hard work and that got reflected in the form of results," Chaudhary's mother Brijesh said.

Chaudhary's brother Nitin, on the other hand, revealed that the shooter just wanted to perform well and was not at all under pressure before leaving for Asian Games.

:He was normal while leaving for Jakarta. He was not at all pressurized. He just said that he would go and perform," Nitin said.

Last year, the Asian Games gold-medalist had won a quota berth for the upcoming Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games by clinching a gold medal in the 10th Asian Championship 10m Rifle/Pistol event in Japan.

India's total medal tally at the ongoing 18th edition of the prestigious event now stands at ten with three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
