Arsenal have announced the signing of Brazilian defender David Luiz from Premier League rivals Chelsea, on Thursday.

Full details about the transfer were not disclosed but according to reports by the British media, the gunners paid approximately 8 million pounds ($9.7 million) for the 32-year-old had signed a two-year contract.

Luiz is now the 10th footballer to wear both London club colours in the entire Premier League era.

Signed from Benfica in 2011, Luiz won the UEFA Champions League (2012), Premier League (2017) and FA Cup (2012, 2018) during his two spells with Chelsea.

The Brazil international Luiz has also won the UEFA Europa League (2013, 2019).

"David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well-known player and adds to our defensive strength," said Spaniard Emery.

The Gunners finished 5th last season and missed out on UCL qualification for the 3rd year in a row. The club lost key defenders over the summer with the departures of Laurent Koscielny, Carl Jenkinson and Stephan Lichtsteiner.

David Luiz is Arsenal's 6th summer signing of the season after Gabriel Martinelli, Dani Ceballos (on loan from Real Madrid), center-back William Saliba, who has been loaned back to St Etienne, Nicolas Pepe in a club-record deal and left-back Kieran Tierney from Celtic.
