The captain’s form has been topsy-turvy in the year 2018 and many have also asked him to step down. And after recording an embarrassing pair in Centurion on Friday against South Africa, the former Pakistani cricketer slammed Sarfaraz for his poor form in Test cricket.
In conversation with a Pakistani journalist, Akhtar said, "I've heard that Sarfaraz Ahmed is promoting Shah Rukh Khan's latest movie Zero. This type of criticism will keep coming at him when he doesn't give good performances".

In the year 2018, Pakistan played a total of nine Tests of which they won only four which included the one-off match against Ireland, the draw against England and a 1-0 win over Australia. Sarfraz managed to score just 337 runs at 24.07 – his lowest since 2013 – in all the nine matches.
He performed well in the second Test match against Australia at Abu Dhabi where he scored two back-to-back fifties. However, he ended the year with a duck in each innings in the series against South Africa.
Sarfarz started receiving a lot of criticism over his captaincy after the recent defeat by New Zealand. Even chairman of the cricket committee, Mohsin Khan agreed with the acquisitions against the skipper.
However Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad came in support of Sarfarz saying that it is unfair to rest the burden of defeat on his shoulders.
"My message for Sarfaraz is not to worry about this sort of pressure and to continue leading the team with the best of his abilities. You cannot run a cricket team by looking at statistics alone and in my book, Sarfaraz’s name would feature as the first name on any team list I would make as to me, he is our best wicket-keeper who can also score runs when needed. Honestly speaking, we have no other option to replace him as Test captain and he should be persisted with and to those looking for scapegoats for the defeat to New Zealand, my advice would be to think of getting rid of some of the under-performing players instead of the captain,” said Miandad as quoted by pakpassion.net.
