Thakur, the former BCCI president, recently hosted Himachal Pradesh's first ever state olympic games in Hamirpur to provide a platform to the athletes to showcase their talent and skills.

Under the 'Khelega Yuva, Jeetega Himachal' (youth will play, Himachal will win) initiative, seven sports will be promoted across schools with a strength of 300 plus students to identify talent, nurture them, channelise their energies in the right direction and insulate them from falling prey to menace like drugs.

"A provision of Rs 2 crore will be made for the development of sports infrastructure in schools, for any of the seven sports -- football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, athletics, kabaddi, boxing, badminton and kho-kho," he said.
