Andy Murray promises loyalty to Great Britain despite supporting 'Yes Scotland' campaign

British number one Andy Murray has reportedly vowed to remain loyal to Great Britain (G.B.) despite declaring his support for Scottish independence on Thursday. The Wimbledon and Olympic gold medallist confirmed that he would be representing team G.B. during the Davis match against the United States next March amid an angry backlash against his support for the Yes Scotland campaign.

Breaking his silence on Twitter just hours before four million Scots cast their vote in the ballot, the tennis ace admitted that he had been swayed by the negativity of the 'No' campaign before posting 'Let's do this!', the Daily Express reported. Murray's remarks have reportedly come under fire from disappointed British people who felt betrayed after years of supporting him at the Olympics, Wimbledon and the Davis Cup. Questions had also been raised over whether Murray would continue to represent GB if the United Kingdom had been ripped apart in Friday's result.

However, Mr Murray said that he would surely be playing for Great Britain in the Davis Cup next year, adding that he would be there in March. He said that as far as he is concerned the vote does not change anything in that regard. As a Surrey resident, Mr Murray did not have a right to vote, however, he explained that he had been a keen observer over the last two weeks. He said that he has followed pretty much everything about it over the last two weeks, and especially in the last few days, and that's how he felt at the time. Murray said that it is not his decision, as he cannot vote, and added that it's for the Scottish people to decide and he trusts them to make the right decision.
