American boxer Lamont Peterson recovered from a first round knockdown to outpoint British pugilist Amir Khan in Washington and take the IBF and WBA light-welterweight titles on a split decision. According to Sky Sports, Khan was deducted two points during the fight by referee Joe Cooper for pushing in the seventh and 12th rounds, which proved crucial with two judges scoring the contest to Peterson by just a point.Peterson won 113-112 on two scorecards, while the other judge had it 114-111 in favor of Khan.After the fight, Khan, who was favored to win in his sixth title defense, seemed to blame Cooper for the loss. Peterson offered a rematch.
