Alastair Cook set for another 'magical milestone' if England wins Champions Trophy

England captain Alastair Cook is reportedly on the verge of making another milestone in his star-studded career if his team wins the ICC Champions Trophy.

In his first global tournament as a player and a captain, Cook will lead his country tomorrow into their fifth 50-over final, and a probable success in the eight-nation tournament may see Cook exceed where former skippers Mike Brearley, Mike Gatting, Graham Gooch and Michael Vaughan failed before him.

According to the report, the Essex opener has shown that where he leads others are prepared to follow after taking over the one-day reins in 2011 from Andrew Strauss, adding that victory at Edgbaston would be merely another staging post in a career choc full of magical milestones.

Praising Cook, fellow batsman Jonathan Trott said that Cook leads by example, which is the most important thing a captain can do, adding that although he is a hard taskmaster and sets the tone, he is open and honest and is approachable as a captain, especially for young players.

Stating that a lesser person than Cook may have buckled under the pressure of coming in the team and playing straight away as opener and captain, Trott further said that Cook is good at handling pressure, adding that he has proved all his critics wrong.

Cook's highlights include scoring a Test century on debut tour as a captain in India, scoring more Test hundreds than any Englishman before him, and reaching 7,000 Test runs at a younger age than any player, even Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar.

England is expected to go into the game with the same team that triumphed in the semi-final over South Africa with James Tredwell and Steven Finn retaining their places, the report added.
