WWE Backlash results: Randy Orton beats Edge in ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match’, Braun Strowman retains title

In the WWE Backlash at the Performance Center, Florida, Edge and Randy Orton delivered in what was dubbed as ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match’. Drew McIntyre and his challenger Bobby Lashley put on a solid match, while Strowman, John Morrison, and The Miz entertained all.

The Shaemus vs Jeff Hardy clash was a strong to-and-fro battle, however, the RAW Women’s Championship match between Nia Jax and Asuka turned out to be a drag. As for the Triple Threat Match for the Women's Tag Team Championship but just as normal.

Randy Orton proved he was right that the was superior wrestler as he defeated Edge in what may have been The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever at WWE Backlash.

 

Angle Slams, Edge-O-Matics, Pedigrees, Rock Bottoms the depth of moves which were broken out over the match.

 

During the clash, Orton managed to hit Edge with an RKO, but Edge kicked out. Orton, who was slow to follow up was unloaded by Edge's two spears to draw a near fall in return. 

 

Edge hit a springboard in the corner, however, he jumped right into another RKO for a two count. Orton then went to the well with a low blow and drilled Edge to the head with a punt to score the win. 

2. United States Championship - Apollo Crews (c) vs Andrade

Apollo Crews def. Andrade via pinfall to retain the title.

 

Crews and Andrade played off their history with some interesting counters as both hit some big moves. However, Crews eventually hit the press slam into a standing moonsault and a standing shooting star press. 

 

Crews hit Andrade with the sit-down spinning powerbomb for the pinfall to successfully retain the title.

3. Women's Tag Team Championship - Bayley & Sasha Banks (c) vs The IIconics vs. Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss

Bayley & Sasha Banks (c) def. Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss [via pinfall] and The IIconics to retain the titles.

 

The duo reign as Women’s Tag Team Champions nearly came to an end several times during a chaotic Triple Threat Tag Team Match. 

 

With three women legal at all times, the pace of the clash stayed high. The IIconics really impressed in showing off in-ring improvements. While Bliss hit Twisted Bliss on Peyton Royce, however, Banks swooped into the ring and pinned Bliss for the three counts to retain the titles.

 

4. Jeff Hardy vs Sheamus

Jeff Hardy hit a 250-pound speedbump on his comeback as Sheamus knocked off The Charismatic Enigma in an ultra-personal encounter. Sheamus came out fast, throwing Hardy to the mat and immediately grinding his forearm into Hardy's face, rubbing off Hardy's face paint.

 

Sheamus proved to be a handful despite Hardy having the guts to fight back again and again. He eventually allowed Sheamus to finally power his way to a win.

5. Raw Women's Championship -- Asuka (c) vs Nia Jax

Asuka vs. Nia Jax ended in a double count-out.

 

Asuka turned in a gritty performance against Nia Jax, but The Irresistible Force may have a claim to another opportunity at the Raw Women’s Championship following a double count-out.

 

While Asuka is one of the best wrestlers on the roster, this match didn't allow her to show it.

 

6. Universal Championship - Braun Strowman (c) vs The Miz & John Morrison

Braun Strowman (c) def. Miz & John Morrison via pinfall to retain the title.

 

Braun Strowman dominated the run as a costly mistake by The Miz prevented the Dirt Sheet Duo from dethroning The Monster. 

 

Miz and Morrison tried to keep the fast-paced, quick-tag offense going but Strowman shrugged off their strikes. Strowman hit a running power slam on Morrison for the win.

Drew McIntyre delivered what may have been his gutsiest showing to preserve his reign against a determined Bobby Lashley.

The Street Profits and The Viking Raiders had a backstage brawl instead of a match.

 

Before the match, the Profits and Raiders were found battling in the parking lot. The groups were interrupted by an Akira Tozawa-led motorcycle ninja gang.

 

The Profits and Raiders then became the "Viking Profits," and they fought off the motorcycle ninjas.
