Hima Das: The golden girl who ran her way to glory grabbing five medals in a month

Indian sprint star Hima Das extended her sensational run by claiming her fifth gold of the month.

The Assames girl became the face of her state and an athlete to reckon with after she became India’s first sprinter to win a gold medal at the global athletics meet in 2018. She recently donated half of her monthly salary for relief efforts after floods caused havoc in her hometown.

Hima is in contention for adding another gold medal to her tally as the silver won by India's 4x400 mixed relay race team at the Asian Games may be upgraded. Bahrain is set to lose the top spot with Kemi Adekoya being potentially getting handed a four-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after failing a dope test.

From just being a simple girl to becoming India's golden star - Hima Das's journey has been exciting. A look a the five gold bars she earned in this month:

Hima Das returned to the 400-metre race with a win as she clocked a season-best time of 52.09 seconds in the Nove Mesto nad Metuji Grand Prix on Saturday. 

This is the first time she was competing in the 400m event after having pulled out of the Asian Athletics Championship in April with a back spasm.

This event has been picked by Hima’s coaching staff as she will look to specialize in keeping the 2020 Olympics in mind.

Hima Das wins fifth gold of month, makes super return to favourite 400m event

In her first competitive 200m race of the year, the old Assam runner had clocked 23.65 seconds on her way to gold at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on July 2.

Hima, the world junior champion and national record holder in 400m clocked 23.65s on her way to the 200m gold.

This was Hima’s first competitive 200m race of the year. She has a personal best of 23.10s, which she clocked last year.

Hima Das won her second international gold in women’s 200m with a top finish at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland on July 7.

She clocked 23.97 seconds to clinch the gold while VK Vismaya bagged the silver in 24.06.

This was Hima’s second competitive 200m race of the year.

On July 13, she won her third 200m gold at the Kladno Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic.

She clocked at 23.43 and this was her third international gold inside two weeks.

Hima Das clinched her fourth gold of the fortnight as she won the 200m race with a creditable time in the Tabor Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic on July 17.

She won in 23.25 seconds with most of the competitors representing clubs of the Czech Republic. 

This was 19-year-old Hima's fourth gold since July 2.
