Will take a long while for ‘it girl' like Aishwarya

I agree with the survey that India stands at the eighth position in the new list of 20 best looking nations. But though we have the looks, we are not upto the mark as far as grooming aspect is concerned. For instance, people walk in crumpled shirts, we don’t pay much attention to our hair. So basically, we are not good as far as our presentation is concerned. Even our hygiene standards are not something we can crow about. This results in the whole getup not being upto the mark. But if we work on these aspects, I don’t think it’s too long before we become the number two best looking nation in the world. According to me the best looking Indian is Priyanka Gandhi, she looks beautiful even without make-up. Her fitness levels, hair and skin seem flawless. She is not known to use brands. I wouldn’t just rate her number one, but two and three as well! Among men, I like Saif Ali Khan, since he comes across as very stylish, he knows how to talk and he was worked on his voice. Perfect beauties are created once in a while, like Cleopatra was one in a million, similarly it will be a long time to get an ‘it’ girl like Aishwarya.  —Chhaya Momaya, grooming consultant

How on earth can obese  Americans top the list?

I completely disagree with the survey, it seems like complete hogwash. It’s a known fact that Americans eat a lot of junk food and they are fat and obese, how can they qualify as the best looking nation? I also don’t agree that Brazil should be at the second position. On what basis have they come up with these ratings? Does the opinion of merely 5,000 travellers and their estimation of the attractiveness of people around the world become a comprehensive survey? It is a matter of perception. I believe Indian women think that Pakistani men are hot and dashing, that is until they open their mouth. But on a serious note, Jawaharlal Nehru was one of the most handsome looking men, he had charisma and was  good looking.  —Prahlad Kakkar,  ad guru

Tough call, issue is subjective

I haven’t travelled the world to verify if this survey holds good. Although beauty is subjective, I feel it is just a superficial survey. There may be many possible actors who may be commissioning such a survey, like magazine houses, broadcasting networks or even cosmetic companies. Aishwarya Rai is certainly the best looking person in India. But she isn’t the most renowned Indian celebrity. There are many more good looking women world over, who are famous.—Pranay Kuruvilla, software engineer

Models have global exposure

I’m glad to know that we figure eighth in the list of the most beautiful nations. But this doesn’t surprise me because there has been a lot of international exposure on Hindi cinema and glamour industry. Our models have got international assignments. Indians are surely beautiful and are known for sharp features and good skin. My personal favourites for the best looking Indians are Shabana Azmi and Sushmita Sen.—Aarti Pathare, architecture student

Still obsessed with fair skin

I’m sure India should have figured much higher in the list. Indians are the only people who are always attracted to white skin and foreign destinations. Indians are the most beautiful people and even when one goes abroad, we realise how much people there are in love with everything Indian. Priyanka Chopra is among the most good-looking celebrities. She has a great sense of dressing. —Saumil Bhavsar, businessman

Spanish deserve to be on top

I don’t quite agree with the list. Americans are overrated, French and Indians have got a raw deal. I think Spanish people deserve the number one slot. The Americans seem desperate to revive their economy and want to promote tourism through such surveys. The best looking Indian is Deepika Padukone and best looking male is Rishi Idnani. Aishwarya is a classic Indian beauty, but   Kareena Kapoor has more mettle.—Praful Baweja, event manager

Perception of beauty differs

I don’t take such surveys seriously. We cannot ascertain the credibility and don’t know if it’s some kind of promotional event. We don’t even know what criteria they have used before judging nations. But I don’t think that Americans deserve to be number one. My personal favourite for the best looking Indian is Kajol. She is cool and doesn’t pretend to be someone else. She has typical Indian looks and is very graceful.—Vahista Jagirdar, school student
