The Anant Kanekar Marg which leads to the Bandra Terminus has become an eyesore for passengers and motorists alike. The reason being the neglect of the area by the civic authorities.

MIG Colony residents say that garbage is strewn all over the road which gives the area a shabby appearance. The road has open ditches at many places, this makes it dangerous for both pedestrians and motorists to travel on the road during night time.
Due to continuous vehicular movement, the road has got eroded at many places.

Moreover the road space for vehicles has got severely crunched due to the unchecked growth of encroachments on both sides of the road. The parking space around the station is inadequate and this results in haphazard parking of vehicles in 'No-Parking zones'.

Although there is heavy traffic on the road, there are no proper designated crossings for pedestrians. During the evening peak hour, the traffic is chaotic because many travellers are in the rush to catch outstation trains.

TRAFFIC

The congestion in the area is getting worse due to the constricted road and unchecked encroachments
Rohit Baghel says, “The traffic snarls are getting unbearable. There is no proper management of vehicles. Vehicles are parked haphazardly on the road. There must be proper crossings for pedestrians at regular intervals.”

Mansi Saxena says, “Encroachments have narrowed the motorway. The BMC must widen the road and restore it to a three-lane motorway. More traffic personnel must be posted to direct traffic and take action against the illegal parking that takes place in the area.”

Avinash Dhumal says, “Considering the volume of road traffic, the BMC must take special care of the road. We need someone to direct the traffic. This will go a long way in easing the traffic situation in the area.”

CIVIC AMENITIES

Residents are not happy with the parking arrangements and the crossings at Bandra Terminus. Lack of cleanliness is also a major problem
Suchitra Iyer says, “Due to continuous traffic the road has got worn off at many places, this results in a dumpy ride for motorists. Moreover unorganised parking and lack of traffic police personnel create chaos.”
Reshma Majithia says, “Maintenance of civic amenities in the locality has been neglected. Garbage piles lie strewn around the area, the BMC doesn't clear rubble for days. There are no proper zebra crossings along the road.”
Rajeshree Salvi says, “There are numerous potholes on the road and some of the manholes are open. Open ditches have been dug out without proper markings. This poses a threat to the safety of pedestrians and motorists.”

GOVERNANCE

Outstation commuters allege neglect of the crucial railway passenger terminal
Sumita Biradar says, “In many ways the terminal is the face of the city for many outstation passengers. The authorities must spruce up the area around the station, so that new visitors don't carry a wrong impression of the city.”
Deepak Kumar says, "Taxi and auto drivers routinely refuse to ply from Bandra Terminus and get away with impunity. They also demand for higher fares from unsuspecting outstation passengers. The passengers get no help from police. They must post personnel in good numbers and bring errant taxi drivers to book.”
Ricky Patel says, “While the authorities have spent a large amount of money on refurbishing the facilities of Bandra Terminus. They must spare a thought to the adjoining areas also. For some passengers travelling to Mumbai, the filthy conditions come as a shock.”

Manmohan Chonker. Corporator
“Most of the area of Bandra railway terminus comes under the possession the railways. State government and railway officials must coordinate and take measures to beef up the infrastructure of the area around Bandra terminus. This area has been ignored for a long time. This is a crucial railway terminal for outstation trains. Its shabby upkeep is not good for the image of Mumbai.”

AL Quadros. Taximen's Union
“I don't think taxi drivers refuse to ply passengers or haggle with them. Moreover traffic police personnel are present at taxi stands to monitor the movement. If any taxi driver does not charge the fare according to the meter reading, passengers can complain to the police. The authorities must take action to deter such instances and pull up errant taxi drivers.”

Neera Adarkar. Architect
“Bandra terminus locality has been entirely ignored by the authority with regards to the cleanliness and sanitation. Given that the area witnesses large movement of people, due to the terminus area, a special staff must be deputed to clear the area of rubble.”
