Barfi! is a simple story told in lucid manner with utter class, But I don’t think it deserves to go for the Oscars because most of the scenes are copied from some or the other movie. It’s like a collage of many movies. Though characters with disabilities are shown in positive light, I don’t think the movie addresses them. Nikita Abhyankar - Student
Barfi! is not just a film about the deaf and the mute or people suffering with Autism, but it also focuses on deeper issues like love, life and celebrating the nuances of life. It is a movie that touches the heart. I think it’s the best bet for India at the Academy Awards.

Though a well-picturised movie. However, there was huge scope to portray subtle emotions wherein Priyanka and Ranbir’s characters could have moments of silence and yet they would understand what the other wants to say. I was expecting a lot more and I do not think it deserves to be nominated for Oscars.

I loved the movie at first, but later found out how it was copied from many movies. The performances were great and had it been an original, it definitely deserved to go for Oscars. However, with so many sources of inspiration, I don’t think it should be nominated. The cinematography was excellent, and the editing was also very strong. The music was excellent too, but as it was Pritam’s composition, they definitely were copied.

I left the theatre in 20 minutes of the movie. I don’t think it should have been selected for the Oscars. Quite a few scenes are direct rip-offs from Charlie Chaplin’s movies. The Bollywood touch is of course present but it is overhyped.

According to me, we Indians judge very quickly and jump to conclusions. No doubt, Barfi! was a good movie but the move of sending the movie to the Academy Awards within a very less time of its release, seemed desperate to me. The only part original about the movie, was the drama and India is never short of that.
