At a time when bitter fights on social media over a difference of opinion or due to political affiliations are becoming common, Twitter's new change of rule is surely going to benefit users. Twitter is now allowing its users to remove followers from their accounts instead of simply blocking them.

The Twitter feature which was rolled out earlier this month will only be available on the web version of the microblogging platform. The 'remove this follower' tool will allow users to 'be the curator' of their follower list, Twitter said. Other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram already have this option for users.

So how do Twitter users remove a follower without having to block them? We look into it here.

How to remove follower

Open Twitter.com on your desktop and log in to your Twitter account, then on the left menu panel click on Profile.

You will see your Twitter profile with the counts of people you follow and people who follow you.

Click on the number of your followers. On the next screen, you will see a list of your followers.

Now, look for accounts that you want to remove from your follower list on Twitter.

On the right of the accounts in the follower list, you see a three-dots icon. Click on the icon for an account you want to unfollow.

From menu that opens, click on 'Remove this follower' option. You will soon get a message 'removed user' is not following anymore.

Other Twitter users will not receive a notification when you remove them from the follower list.

However, if they choose to visit your profile, they can still access your Tweets and follow you again.
