Nickelodeon welcomed the start of 'Pride Month', an annual occasion celebrated by the LGBTQ community during the month of June every year, by hinting that popular kid's cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants is a member of the LGBTQ community.

The official Twitter handle of Nickelodeon on Saturday (June 13) shared a post and wrote: "Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month"

Along with a rainbow shaded photograph of SpongeBob, Nickelodeon also shared other charters like Korra from "The Legend of Korra," who is bisexual, and the transgender actor Michael D. Cohen from "Henry Danger" in the post.

HERE IS THE POST:

Stephen Hillenburg, the man who created SpongeBob in 1999, had revealed back in 2005 that Spongebob was a member of the LGBTQ+ community by being asexual, not gay.

"We never intended them to be gay. I consider them to be almost asexual. We’re just trying to be funny and this has got nothing to do with the show," he said according to People.
