The recent discovery of a perfectly preserved fossil which is a piece of cartilage from the thigh of a peacock-sized dinosaur has created quite a stir in the scientific community. Experts believe that the fossil may contain DNA of the dinosaur as it was perfectly preserved in volcanic ash.

The fossil belongs to a dinosaur that was alive around 125 million years ago called caudipteryx (similar looking to velociraptors from the 1993 Jurassic Park film).

As per the team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences which discovered the specimen in northern China, the fossil is in “exquisite” condition.
