There comes another marvellous sight for the stargazers and the skywatchers. To see the Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn forming a triangle, look up at the sky on Thursday night.

It is a great sighting offered by the celestial bodies, soon after the Leonid meteor shower and the blue Moon on Halloween.

The gazers will find the crescent Moon in the south-southwest as soon as the sky starts to darken. Jupiter will appear a little after sunset and Saturn a little after that.

Saturn will make an appearance later because it is dimmer than Jupiter and other brighter stars that appear after the sunset.

"The best observing time is about 30 minutes after local sunset for about two hours while the Moon and planets are high enough in the sky to be nicely visible," writes astronomy educator Jeffrey Hunt on his website.

There is no exact time duration to enjoy the sight as it will still be good for about five hours after sunset and no special equipment is required either to look at the sky. A small telescope like the one used for birdwatching or binoculars can be used to look at the craters on the Moon and the moons of Jupiter. A small telescope will also help in looking at a hint of Saturn's rings.

Another pairing of the three bodies will be seen in mid-December when the two planets will be closer to each other. Soon after that, the Great Conjunction can be experienced on December 21. When the Moon or a planet has the same celestial longitude as that of another celestial object, it is called a conjunction.

Jupiter passes Saturn in conjunction once in 19.6 years, which makes it a rare event. The conjunction between the two planets this year will be the closest since 1623, which makes it even more special.
